We provide our 400+ undergraduate students a variety of options with six areas of interest: pre-vet/pre-grad, equine science, business management, food science, animal production, and animal biotechnology. These options allow students to gain industry specific experience for a wide variety of animal-related careers.

  • Riding Camp Instructor’s Virtual Horsemanship Safety Clinic

    Riding Camp Instructor's Horsemanship Safety Clinic is available virtually!
    This clinic would also be beneficial to camp directors hiring horse staff or purchasing horses, tack or equitation services. Camp staff working with horses need to be aware of safety. This clinic would be a good refresher for anyone interested in safety as well. Information discussed will include helmet safety, fire safety, tack selection, fitting, care and problems, selection of horses, equine first aid, liability, horse handling safety, and mounted instruction. Certificates will be issued to all participants that successfully complete the clinic.

    The UConn Department of Animal Science is pleased to announce that the Samantha Calzone Scholarship has reached it's goal of $50,000 and is now permanently endowed! Thank you to all who supported this scholarship.

    The scholarship, in memory of alumna Samantha Calzone, will support continuing undergraduate animal science students who are members of the UConn Equestrian Team beginning fall 2020. Please consider supporting this cause in memory of a wonderful student.
